ABOUT Kurisumala Ashram

About
Kurisumala, which literally translates as ‘Cross Mountain’, is a Christian pilgrim centre that is a two-kilometer drive from Kumily . Pilgrims climb the mountain on Good Friday in remembrance of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the ultimate sacrifice for mankind. The place is also known for its enchanting natural beauty.
Kollampattada, on the way to Kurisumala, offers a spectacular view of the Periyar Valley. Visitors usually take a short jeep drive to Kollampattada and then trek to Kurisumala. Rolling mountains all around and a view of a small stretch of River Periyar amidst the greenery are two of the many attractions of Kurisumala. From this vantage point, you can see some parts of Kumily and the vast plains of Tamil Nadu near the Kerala border.
Mornings here are absolutely charming with the orchestra of the birds and the hills clad in misty beauty. The evenings, with the twilight falling on the mountains and the pleasantly subdued luster of the greenery, are equally beautiful.
